Communication Process of Students with ChatGPT (Perspective of Human-Machine Communication Theory)
Main Article Content
Abstract
ChatGPT is not only able to provide information but also provide a new experience to communicate with each other with a smart technology. The purpose of this study is to review the communication process carried out by students in utilizing ChatGPT through the perspective of human-machine communication (HMC) theory. The method used is a systematic literature review through searches in international and national reputable journal databases. Based on the search protocol, 30 literatures were obtained that fit the inclusion criteria. The results of this study explain the implications of HMC on ChatGPT through three major themes namely social roles, the process of building meaning, and socio-cultural implications. ChatGPT performs a functional role so that it has a limited role as a communicator. However, there is a process of mutual understanding of the messages sent between humans and machines. Human-machine communication also questions the values of humans as social beings.
